STRATEGIC PLAN 2026-28

VISION

To be a sustainable nationally recognised peer support program accessible by all who work in healthcare.

GOALS 2026 – 2028

The focus is to strengthen and expand the service over the next two financial years where funding has been made available to further the original aim building the service in Australia. We will capacity build the voluntary base, expand training activities, build visibility and establish a research agenda.

Priority 1: Strengthen the Peer Support Model for Healthcare Workers

Objective:  To Deliver More Peer Support for Healthcare Workers

 

Key Actions

  • Establish an Expert Reference Group of Key Stakeholders

  • Undertake Advocacy to Raise Awareness and Promote the Service through an advocacy plan

  • Increase the sense of connection and belonging among facilitators, trainers, and triage team members through volunteer appreciation

 

Success Measure: The service is delivered to more healthcare professionals.

 

Priority 2: Strengthen and Grow the Service

Objective: To ensure the peer support program is sustainable, responsive, high quality, and accessible to healthcare workers across different professions.

Key Actions

  • Improve the efficiency and consistency of participant intake, triage, matching and follow-up

  • Increase the number and diversity of trained facilitators available for matching participants

  • Strengthen systems for monitoring service activity and outcomes

 

Success Measures

  • Reduced waiting time from first contact to matching.

  • Increased number of active facilitators

  • Improved follow-up rates with participants and facilitators.

 

Priority 3: Expand Training Activity

Objective: To strengthen Hand n Hand’s education role through a combination of free and paid peer support training.

 

Key Actions

  • Consolidate regular free training for facilitators and interested participants

  • Increase the number of paid training opportunities for external organisations

  • Position Hand n Hand as a trusted provider of peer support education in healthcare

 

Success Measures

  • Regular training calendar published

  • Increased/maintain attendance at free training sessions

  • Increased number/maintain of paid training enquiries and bookings

  • Positive participant feedback

Priority 4: Build Visibility through Communication and Marketing

Objective: To increase awareness of Hand n Hand’s services, values, and impact among healthcare workers, partners, and potential supporters

Key Actions

  • Maintain a consistent and strategic social media presence with key messaging

 

Success Measure

Data analysis shows increased social media activity and links to service takeup.

Priority 5: Establish a Research & Evaluation Agenda

Objective: To strengthen the evidence base of the benefits of peer support to Australian healthcare worker wellbeing

 

Key Actions

  • Identify feasible research priorities to be undertaken during 2026-2028

  • Consolidate partnership with the Australian National University and other collaborators.

 

Success Measure

Research priorities agreed and partnership established.
